At the heart of every community is your local hospital. Whenever you, your children or friends need treatment for an ailment, your local hospital is there for you. Hospitals care for all patients — regardless of ability to pay. Annually Chicago area not-for-profit hospitals provide over $3 billion in charitable contributions to their communities and generate over $400 million in taxes. But some people want them to pay even more. Say no to higher taxes. Raising taxes on your local hospital would make healthcare costs even worse. Some hospitals, which are already hanging by a thread, may be forced to close their doors while others may have to layoff nurses or close trauma units. This would create even higher costs and send people to hospitals, further away, which would create longer wait times for you... and delay critical care for everybody.
